At the National Assembly, take on a challenge that matches your skills!

The challenge of words and accuracy

Transcribers are the ears and memory of our institution. They transcribe the House debates, parliamentary committee proceedings, press briefings and various parliamentary activities.

A little history

The Journal des débats (Hansard), containing the transcriptions, has been produced since 1964 and is considered a reference document of great historic value.

The job

Transcribers write the first version of the Journal des débats, which is posted online the same day and distributed to parliamentarians and journalists. Although revised and edited versions come later, the transcriber's version remains the reference version. Accuracy at this stage is therefore essential.

Transcribers work from digital audio recordings. They must apply all the Journal des débats's own technical rules as well as usual spelling, grammar, syntax and typographical rules. They must also carry out terminology and grammatical research. The quality and timeliness of their work have a direct impact on client satisfaction.

Jonathan is a transcriber at the National Assembly: "Faithfully transcribing House debates or parliamentary committee proceedings is a surprising and stimulating linguistic challenge which requires dedication, an ability to listen, typing skills, good general culture and analytical insight."

Specific working conditions

The work of transcribers is directly linked to parliamentary business, press briefings and the National Assembly's special activities. Transcribers are therefore on-call employees.
