Select Committee on Dying with Dignity

On December 4, 2009, the National Assembly of Québec created the Select Committee on Dying with Dignity (SCDD) to seek public input on the question. On May 25, 2010, the 15 MNAs on the SCDD invited individuals and groups wishing to voice their opinions to send in their views.
Participating in the Public Consultation
On May 25, 2010, the SCDD released a consultation document to guide individuals and groups wishing to express their opinions on dying with dignity. It is suggested that you read this document before submitting your views.

There are a number of ways of participating.
Until July 16, 2010, you may
- submit a brief (any written document will be accepted)
- request to be heard by the SCDD without submitting a brief

Following the SCDD’s Work
As of the end of the summer of 2010, the SCDD will hold public hearings in 11 cities throughout Québec; this will allow it to hear individuals and groups chosen from among all those that expressed an interest.

- the public hearings schedule
- the transcription (Journal des débats) and video of the proceedings of each SCDD meeting

Preparatory to the SCDD’s work, the National Assembly’s Committee on Health and Social Services consulted 32 experts and associations between February 15 and March 9, 2010.
