Petition:
Possibility of completing university program internships in Québec’s 17 regions

Petition text

CONSIDERING THAT the Department of Physical Education at Université Laval wanted to forbid a citizen of Gaspésie from doing an internship in her native region, despite the fact that the possibility of doing so was included in the description of the program on the website of the university, upon admission;

CONSIDERING THAT forbidding students from doing internships in their region of origin is a centralizing measure that does not consider all the regional realities of Québec;

CONSIDERING THAT many students who come from so-called remote areas that are far from major metropolitan centers wish to return there after their studies to work and raise their family;

CONSIDERING THAT an internship in their home region is often a unique opportunity for students wishing to settle there to make themselves known and to gain an invaluable experience that can be used for future employment;

CONSIDERING THAT students who wish to settle down in a region other than their own must be allowed to do so and that a workplace internship provides a good opportunity to start their integration;

CONSIDERING THAT students who leave their home region to study at the university must already pay rent and that additional costs are often associated with an internship in a region other than their own;

We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Québec to ensure that in each of the university programs there is the possibility for students to do internships in the 17 regions of Québec.
