The National Assembly celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Parliament Building in 2011.

On April 8, 1886, the Members sat for the first time in the National Assembly Chamber. And that is where, for the past 125 years, parliamentarians have represented their fellow citizens, passed laws and overseen government activities.

In 2011, the National Assembly invited the people of Québec and visitors from around the world to discover Québec's Parliament Building, a symbol of democracy and a witness to history.

Did you know?

The central tower of the Parliament Building is dedicated to explorer Jacques Cartier. Originally, Eugène-Étienne Taché had wanted to install a bronze statue of Cartier in the tower, but that did not materialize.

It happened on...

January 12, 1948 - The fleurdelisé flag has been flying from the central tower of the Parliament Building ever since a government order was issued on this date by Maurice Duplessis’ Union nationale. Further, since December 15, 1976, Québec’s flag has been displayed to the right of the President’s throne in the National Assembly.
