October 26 and 27 2011 - Symposium on democracy, parliamentarians and the media
In a world where political and media practices are undergoing radical change, questions and challenges abound, particularly as regards the impact of such change on the quality of information and on democracy. The 125th anniversary of the Parliament Building, which is also the 140th anniversary of the Press Gallery, seemed the perfect time to organize a Symposium on democracy, parliamentarians and the media in order to discuss these topics. October 1 and 2, 2011 - Journées de la culture at the Parliament Building
The National Assembly opened its doors to the public for the event "Journées de la culture". In addition to a tour of the Chamber of the National Assembly, members of the public were invited to climb to the top of the building's central tower, which houses one of the oldest working mechanical clocks in Canada, accompanied by master clockmaker André Viger. For the occasion, the National Assembly Library presented the work La Description de l'Égypte (the description of Egypt), which was published following Napoleon Bonaparte's expedition to Egypt at the end of the 19th century. In addition, for the first time, visitors were allowed entry to the Assembly's television broadcast facilities, which are not usually open to the public. See photos and a video of the event.

Television program: Figures de la démocratie – Eugène-Étienne Taché
This television program on Eugène-Étienne Taché tells the story of the Parliament Building from the drawing board to the current heritage building. Based on a number of accounts, the program describes Taché’s commitment to seeing the history of the nation engraved in stone and bronze.

August 31, 2011 - Noontime talk on the history of Parliament Hill
To round off the talk he gave last June 21 on the 125-year history of the Parliament Building, historian Frédéric Lemieux told the story of Parliament Hill from the 19th century until today. Watch the video of his talk and take a trip back in time.

June 24, 2011 – Open house at the Parliament Building and tour of the gardens
On June 24, Québec’s National Holiday, Eugène-Étienne Taché, Jean Talon, Samuel de Champlain and Pamphile Le May were among the historical figures on hand to welcome visitors to the Parliament Building. The public was allowed access to areas of the building normally not open such as the National Assembly Chamber, the Legislative Council Chamber, the parliamentary committee rooms, and the office of the President (Speaker). June 24, 2011 – A plaque for the 125th anniversary of the Parliament Building
National Assembly President Jacques Chagnon and Commission de la Capitale Nationale CEO Jacques Langlois unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the 125th anniversary of the Parliament Building during the open house event held on the Québec National Holiday.

May 19, 2011 - Inauguration of the exhibition Je me souviens
The President of the National Assembly Jacques Chagnon inaugurated the Je me souviens (I Remember) exhibition. This public exhibition reveals lesser-known details about the Parliament Building’s history and architecture. A timeline illustrated by numerous original photos guides visitors through the great moments in the history of this prestigious building.

April 14, 2011 – Book launch: Québec, splendeurs capitales
Photographer Christian Chevalier and poet Stanley Péan pay tribute to the environment in which Québec’s political history has evolved over the past 125 years. Published in collaboration with the Commission de la capitale nationale du Québec and Les Publications du Québec.
