A significant legacy of the 225th anniversary of our parliamentary institutions
A monument commemorating Québec’s first elections, in 1792

National Assembly President Jacques Chagnon, accompanied by Minister of Canadian Heritage the Honourable Mélanie Joly, unveiled the monument Member of Parliament Arriving in Québec, a significant legacy of the 225th anniversary of parliamentary institutions reminiscent of the bronze by Québec artist Alfred Laliberté.
Made possible in part by a Government of Canada grant, the bronze statue was showcased in the Parliament Building forecourt during the 44th session of the Assemblée parlementaire de la francophonie.
Created between 1927 and 1931, the original sculpture (57 × 28 × 23.5 cm) belongs to the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec collection’s Trades, Customs and Legends of Yesteryear series.
