Access to French Catholic schools for children of Italian immigrant families after World War II

WHEREAS approximately 150,000 Italian immigrants settled in Québec during the immediate post-World War II era;

WHEREAS during that era a significant number of children of Italian immigrants were denied access to French-language Catholic schools and were directed to attend English-language Catholic schools;

WHEREAS this denial of access to French-language Catholic schools was not justified;

We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Québec to : 

• acknowledge that during the immediate post-World War II era, a significant number of children of Italian immigrants were unjustly denied access to Québec’s French Catholic public schools;
• express its regret that Québec’s post-World War II era French Catholic public education system allowed many children of Italian immigrant families to be denied access to French Catholic schools.
