Permanent adoption of standard time in Québec
Petition text
WHEREAS the twice-yearly seasonal time change between standard time and daylight saving time disrupts the sleep, health, and daily routines of Québec residents;
WHEREAS scientific evidence in fields such as sleep medicine and chronobiology indicates that the transition to daylight saving tTime in spring is associated with increased sleep deprivation, reduced productivity, and short-term increases in certain health risks;
WHEREAS standard time more closely aligns with human circadian rhythms and natural daylight patterns;
WHEREAS the seasonal time change creates logistical challenges for families, schools, and workplaces, particularly for parents of young children;
WHEREAS numerous jurisdictions in North America and around the world are currently reconsidering or eliminating seasonal time changes;
WHEREAS Québec has the legislative authority to determine its own time observance;
We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Québec to:
- end the practice of changing the time twice per year in Quebec;
- adopt permanent standard time throughout the province;
- consult with neighbouring jurisdictions to facilitate coordination while prioritizing the health and well-being of Québec residents.
