Obtaining a daycare permit for Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital

CONSIDERING THAT for years, employees at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) have expressed their need for an on-site daycare. Over time, their momentum increased and in 2009, the JGH became engaged in the process of applying for a public, government-subsidized daycare permit;

CONSIDERING THAT that an application was submitted in February 2012 to the Ministry of Families and rejected in December of that year, and that a second application was submitted in June 2013, and in March 2014 it was refused once again;

CONSIDERING THAT the results of a survey of the Montreal Social Services Health Network (Crop, July 2009) show that an on-site daycare supports the attraction and retention of employees to the Island of Montreal and promotes a work-family balance;

CONSIDERING THAT the JGH staff and its three unions – United Health Care Professionals (UHCP-FIQ), the Syndicat des travailleuses et travailleurs de l'Hôpital général juif (CSN) and the Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux (APTS) – support the building of an on-site daycare;

We, the undersigned, ask the Government of Québec and the Ministry of Families to accord a daycare permit to the Jewish General Hospital to facilitate a work-family balance for its employees.
