Expansion of RAMQ coverage for treatments and services for children with a disability

CONSIDERING THAT approximately 36,000 children in Québec are reported to have a disability or special need including Autism, ADD, ADHD, down syndrome, services and therapies become essential for this population of children to have a good quality of life;

CONSIDERING THAT RAMQ coverage must be extended to all medically necessary therapies, services, tools, consultations required for a child with a disability or special needs in order to allow every Quebec child the chance to succeed without putting families in financially distress;

CONSIDERING THAT lack of early intervention, early diagnoses and access to services can have staggering effects on a child’s development leading to social, mental, academic and physical difficulties;

CONSIDERING THAT public services are overwhelmed with long waiting lists, leaving children with little to no services during crucial developmental stages;

CONSIDERING THAT the financial situation of a family determines the resources a child has access to, therefore children in low-income families suffer from delayed intervention and inconsistent treatment;

We, the undersigned, ask the Québec Government to include under the RAMQ coverage of the following but not limited to diagnostic testing, early intervention programs, physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, ABA therapy, and psychological counselling for all children under the age of 18 who have been deemed in need of these services by a medical professional.
