CONSIDERING THAT the importance of protecting the environment must not be negated by the health crisis; CONSIDERING THAT the use of disposable procedure masks is an obligation in many workplaces, in accordance with the CNESST, and is now mandatory in schools and post-secondary institutions; CONSIDERING THAT there is a lack of awareness among the population and that many masks and gloves are thrown on the ground, adding a threat to wildlife and biodiversity; CONSIDERING THAT procedure masks and gloves are made of several non-recyclable materials; CONSIDERING THAT there is a lack of information among the public on how to dispose of disposable masks responsibly and that many end up in the recycling when they are not recyclable or in toilets causing damage to our public facilities; CONSIDERING THAT disposable masks and gloves can be contaminated and thus contribute to the spread of COVID-19 if not properly discarded; CONSIDERING THAT the Government of Québec has already made significant investments in the creation of COVID-19 public awareness campaigns; We, the undersigned, call on the Government of Québec to launch a public information campaign to raise awareness and educate Quebecers on the responsible management of disposable masks and gloves.
