Parliament of Catalonia

A brief history

The Assemblée nationale du Québec and the Parliament of Catalonia signed a co-operation agreement (PDF, 53 KB) (in French) in 2002, thus creating the Québec-Catalonia interparliamentary committee. The committee generally meets every two years, alternating between the city of Québec and Barcelona. Since the committee's creation, discussions have focused on such subjects as language policy, information and communications technologies in the parliamentary context and agricultural policy.

On August 27, 2026, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the Assemblée nationale. The call for an election ended the 43rd Legislature.

When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-presidents stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assemblée.
