Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick

A brief history

The Assemblée nationale du Québec and the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick signed an interparliamentary co-operation agreement (PDF, 602 KB) (in French) in 2004, which provided for the creation of the New Brunswick-Québec Parliamentary Association (NBQPA). The members of this association meet once a year, alternating between New Brunswick and Québec.

The NBQPA examines an array of subjects, such as workforce mobility, interprovincial trade, forestry, fisheries and tourism, and forwards its resolutions to the government bodies concerned.

On August 27, 2026, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the Assemblée nationale. The call for an election ended the 43rd Legislature.

When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-presidents stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assemblée.
