A Brief History
In 2003, the Assemblée nationale du Québec and the French Senate signed an interparliamentary cooperation agreement (PDF, 623 KB) (in French).
Under the agreement, Québec MNAs and French senators generally meet once a year, alternating between Québec and France.
The two delegations discuss subjects of mutual interest such as education, research, health and economic development.
On August 27, 2026, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the Assemblée nationale. The call for an election ended the 43rd Legislature.
When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-presidents stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assemblée.
