Louisiana State Legislature

Image Louisiana State Legislature

A brief history

In 2015, the Assemblée nationale and the Louisiana State Legislature, which comprises the Louisiana State Senate and Louisiana House of Representatives, signed a bilateral relations agreement (PDF, 133 KB) (memorandum of understanding) creating the Louisiana-Québec Cooperation Conference (LQCC).

The LQCC allows elected officials from Québec and Louisiana to discuss subjects of mutual interest such as cultural affairs, education, health, environment, energy and economic development.

On August 27, 2026, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the Assemblée nationale. The call for an election ended the 43rd Legislature.

When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-presidents stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assemblée.
