A Brief History

In 2003, The Assemblée nationale du Québec and the Parliament of Wallonia signed a joint interparliamentary cooperation agreement (PDF, 621 KB) (in French) creating the Parliament of Wallonia–Assemblée nationale du Québec Joint Committee.

The parliamentarians who are part of the Joint Committee generally meet once a year, alternating between the city of Québec and Namur. The resolutions adopted by the parliamentarians at these meetings include recommendations for their respective governments.

Since its creation, the Joint Committee has concentrated mainly on questions concerning land use planning, economy, environment and employment.

On August 27, 2026, the Lieutenant-Governor dissolved the Assemblée nationale. The call for an election ended the 43rd Legislature.

When a legislature is dissolved, MNAs, whose terms coincide with the duration of the legislature, cease to hold office. The President and Vice-presidents stay in office until they are replaced or reappointed by the new Assemblée.
