The Constitution states that the longest possible interval between two general elections in Québec is five years. The most recent election in Québec was held on September 4, 2012.
The composition of the Assembly has been as follows since September 13, 2013:
- Parti québécois : 54 seats.
This party forms the Government.
- Quebec Liberal Party : 48 seats.
This party forms the Official Opposition.
- Coalition avenir Québec : 18 seats.
This party forms the Second Opposition Group.
- Québec solidaire: 2 seats.
- Independant: 1 seat.
- Vacant seats: 2 (Viau, Outremont)
